Eric, the thing that I discovered was that I could create an excellent
profile that created awesome captures of the target. However ,when you begin
to substitute items, fabrics etc. they did not react to the light in the
same way as the target did. In other words a ceramic vase in the same hue of
red as the target square might photograph as a different color than the
target did. Having the same color red in a fabric, in a plastic toy, in a
painted wood item would produce different reds for each one. I have gone so
far as to create custom targets made up of tile samples and read the value
of them with a spectrophotometer to create the target data for the profiling
software. Way too much work. My experience with the Phase One was that I
could create a custom target that produced better results than the supplied
profile. But, it did not eliminate the need for some retouching on certain
items.
