Regarding the above I have two questions.
1. What type of gray card do you use and how large is it?
2. When shooting using RAW/NEF format with the D1x and then using Bibble or
similar software to process the files - does one bypass this internal
machinations of the Nikon?
I have been quite happy with the color and tone quality of my Nikon D1x, I
only shoot using NEF and use Bibble to process, which I find a very solid
workflow, though it can be a bit slow with many files...
