Hi Mark,
Thanks for your comments.
I made an earlier post saying that the 5000k was used as a familiar
reference point. I also didn't mean to clump together gray balance and
profiles. The issue went from dealing with color cast to profiling the
environment.
I am not a Rep for anyone. I was a Rep for 2 major camera manufacturers and
was a reseller rep that sold other major digital cameras and other digital
stuff. I was a commercial photographer once, doing still special effects
stuff. I got into digital imaging about 1990. We did digital trans output
and then hand retouched the fluctuating color cast. I am not a fulltime
photographer anymore, but it would seem that I haven't been more then 12
inches from photography.
My preference is for consistency, a tight workflow, and a productive
business. Everyone on this list has a preference to some software. I like a
few myself. Also, over the years, I am fortunate to have been and are in
many studios. They all have their own style of doing. I am a believer of
making systems work in the existing environment, as best as you can. Then
blend in new approaches and concepts.
I don't think you would officially get any manufacturer to advocate much
more then what the product manager puts down on public paper on any list. It
is way to risky. Each word would be up for target practice. I have seen some
manufacturer reps make a posting, but I haven't seen any of them extend
themselves outside of the box.
My comments were not to specifically encourage any particular method, but to
illustrate possible methods. And more importantly that traditional
photography skills are necessary. They always have been and they always will
be. That just my opinion.
Joseph
