I'll take a stab at this. In OS-X, choosing a display profile under
ColorSync sets it as the system wide default display profile. Choosing it
under Displays sets the profile for that particular display (in a multi
monitor setup). In system 9 you have no choice which monitor is used as the
default System Profile. Its the monitor with the menu bar. In OS-X you can
choose which monitor is the default system profile... Or possibly even some
other RGB profile (I haven't tried that). Now, what real world use there is
for this is a whole other discussion. Doesn't some software (Epson printer
drivers on Auto?) assume the system profile as the source. This would give
you control over what profile is used in that situation. It seems that what
little benefit this may offer is probably offset by the greater opportunity
for errors in setup. Only guessing here. Don't stone me if I'm way off
base.
