I would assume because all Photoshop is interested in is getting its data to
the display correctly. It doesn't use the monitor profile for anything else
the way some other less color management active software might. For
instance, Photoshop doesn't use the monitor profile as a default source for
delivering output to a printer. I believe some software does and it looks
to the Colorsync control panel for that setting. Why, I haven't a clue. The
OS-X display control panel (that's what I still call them) sets the monitor
profile and that's what Photoshop sees. The OS-X ColorSync control panel
sets the default system display profile which is used for who knows what.
Its probably of as little use as most of the other settings within that
control panel. Is there much software out there that uses any of these
settings?
