All,
As John Gnaegy correctly explained, the concept of the System Profile is
still around, at least in API form, to support applications that still
ask for the System Profile.
This profile is simply the device (display) profile for the primary
display. Mac OS only matches color to the primary display. This may
change as processors and GPUs improve over time. Of course applications
(e.g., Photoshop) can iterate every display profile and match across
multiple displays using ColorSync and the AppleCMM (or ACE, in the case
of Photoshop).
To end this thread, I will tell you that many things will change with
Jaguar, the next major release of Mac OS X. Stay tuned....
John Z.
P.S. -- We'll make more info available on the changes in Jaguar as we
near launch. In case you haven't been reading your press releases, that
will be "late summer".
