Hi Patricia. I have had excellent results with my and LS 8000 and my
Epson 1280.
I made my own scanner and printer profiles with CompassProfile. I'm
still testing my scanner workflow. I use either:
1. Profile the scanner with the Color Management set to use the
ScannerRGB profile and all settings flat, except for maybe Digital
ICE. Make profiles for any different settings like ICE. When I open
the files in Photoshop, I Assign the custom scanner profile and
convert to DonRGB. DonRGB encompasses both the scanner and printer
spaces nicely.
2. Forget about using my custom profile and use Wide Gamut RGB in the
Nikon Scan software and capture either 8 bit or 14 bit. Open in
Photoshop and convert to Don RGB. Convert to 8 bit color if desired
for more editing controls.
3. When printing turn off the Epson color management when creating
the printer profiles, and use the custom profile when printing from
Photoshop. Match paper/resolution settings when printing to whatever
was used when creating the profile.
I haven't attempted to characterize my iBook display, as I use my
QuickSilver and Sony GDM F-500R for image work.
Kind of a funny thing, I have never even attempted to use the Epson
Color settings. I am so satisfied with the results I get with this
procedure. I made a print using only black ink yesterday for the
first time ever. I have had the printer 10 months!
Gary
