With the Quality setting at the BEST setting you are introducing more grain
into the image. Heidelberg suggest that you scan at the lowest quality
setting for a grain reduction. Now everybody has certain ways of scanning
but the you can see the results for yourself. As for the RGB values that you
suggest are they good for all type of film? Fuji ,Kodak, Agfa, what you can
do is use the white and black tool for the base density you need to hold
down the shift key to add the value to the base density dialog window. This
will only work for Neg scanning for linocolor. For newcolor v2 hold down the
shift key down when you are in the base window for grey midtone or any grey
will do. Also for the image correction slider in that base window go to a
plus 1 or 2 seem to open up the midtone better. Now I don't run the scanner
in production but I have seen some good results from these setting. And like
everybody is saying there is not perfect solution for scanning negs. One
question that I always ask my customers is what is good color? And the
answer is when the check clears.
