Any particular reason for choosing the Epson 9600? The HP1050 is the more
common choice, due to speed, as that is an important factor in a newspaper
environment. We are currently trying to get good results on newsprint stock
with the 9600 (for screenproofing as well as for commercial proofing) but
haven't had great results so far. Even with matte black, the paper starts
to soak up too much ink before the black gets black enough, meaning that the
resulting proof loses shadow detail and has a general lack of contrast in
relation to the original. I am now trying newsprint proofing paper but it
is too early to tell the result. If you are not doing screen proofing or
need to use the same printer for commercial proofing, I probably wouldn't
recommend this printer for newspaper, as the difference in quality is not
that large compared to the 1050, but the speed difference is huge, and with
the 1050, there is no problem with original stock.
