I would like to know how I may convert the colors in a vector drawing
from
one profile to another, like I would a bitmapped image in PhotoShop. I
know
I can rasterize the image in PS and do whatever I want with it, but I
want
to keep it a native Freehand file. (Mac OS 9.2, Freehand 9)
At least for Freehand 10 (I'm not exactly sure what differences there
are between 9 and 10's color management):
If the vector colors are Pantone or CMYK based, they cannot be color
managed in Freehand for output purposes, per se. It is possible to
specify a separation printer profile, which will be used as the source
profile for all CMYK native elements and placed images, and then to
specify a composite printer profile, and finally set Freehand to
simulate the separation device on the composite device. Only in this
case do you get CMYK to CMYK conversions - i.e. essentially a proofing
scenario. In no case does Freehand repurpose spot color CMYK
equivalents however. They would need to be made CMYK first.
An alternative is to turn off color management, and export the file to
EPS, and then use something like Gretag Macbeth iQueue 120 (or 140) to
process the file, or Praxisoft ICC Autoflow.
