Without commenting on the Epson Stylus 2000P, this is the route you will
want to consider the most (from a photographic standpoint at least). The
2000P is a tricky printer to profile. Now if you had a 2200...

and go for an RGB-CMYK route?
This complicates things and will probably not be the best way to start
"going digital". Most consumer desktop inkjets like to be fed RGB and do
their own secret sauce conversion inside somewhere. The only reason you
might want to go the CMYK route (don't forget to factor in an appropriate
RIP) is if you want to start proofing for offset press. In my opinion, not
for the faint of heart!
I'd say, if money allows, buy yourself a new printer (like the 2200) and go
the RGB route.
