I think I have remedied the problem with the matte paper by Mitzi.

The profile offered in the Epson SC 980 for matte paper-heavy weight that I put in the "print space" of the print preview box, after pressing command>P, just does not put down enough ink.

When I put Epson SC 980 Standard in this "print space" , the target printed much differently. More saturation. I also choose photo paper instead of matte, in the second dialogue box that shows up after pressing "print" in the first dialogue box.

Now when the printer/paper/ink are/is profiled there is no more warning of deviations.
