Prior to color management, we were still in a "color managed" workflow. I
knew my film output was correct if 50% was 50%. So by imaging to film the
6.02 chart and having it proofed on our calibrated proofing system
(Waterproof) I was able to create what I called our default colorspace; the
transparent colorspace we had been working in all along. So any file brought
into our workflow was technically "assigned" this "profile". Once I had
really profiled our "space", I could actually assign that profile to any
file and get proper results. In fact it was through this I was able to knock
down the resistance to ICC profiling. My profile produced far better RGB to
CMYK conversions than our traditional Photoshop method.
The problem is when you print legacy files to a color managed device that is
dot based. That's always fun to explain.

ICC - resistance is useless
