I'm just a writer and most certainly not a developer, but the ColorSync
API would have to be invoked in the first place in order to determine
that the source and destination are identical. If the source and
destination are indeed identical, then there is a null transform and
the data numbers are preserved. Similarly for other ICC implementations
like GM iQueue and hp 50ps. The confusion seems to arise because there
is no Apple documentation for how the implicit null transform command
works, it's just implicit because it's taken for granted. Which is one
of the rubs with this technology.
Just my ten cents.
