The nice ColorSync API was written by Apple engineers one of whom is
still employed by Apple. A decision was made to licence the default CMM
for ColorSync 2.0 to 2.6. ColorSync 2.0 was released for System 7.5 and
supported both QuickDraw and QuickDraw GX. The original ColorSync 1.0
CMM was never released as the lack of a table-based approach for
non-linear printing spaces in ColorSync 1.0 was felt to be a quality
issue that would impact adoption. The original ICM API was as far as I
know not created by Microsoft, and the original ICM CMM had support for
a low number of grid points only. ICM2 has an industrial strength CMM.
