Adobe's v2 profiles

This may well have been covered here when PS6 first came out but I can't
find it by searching the archives. Adobe's v2 CMYK profiles are creating
mayhem in my pea brain. As I'm sure most know they install in the
application support area instead of the colorsync profiles folder where
other apps can find them.
They also seem to only have the v2 moniker in the internal name, leaving
the external name identical to the previous versions. I have profiles
with the identical external names in the colorsync folder that have been
installed by either previous versions of Photoshop or possibly
PressReady, both Adobe.
Even though an alias of the recommended folder seems to have been put
there, ICC tools seems to see the external name making it impossible to
know which one I'll looking at. Even after temporarily moving the old
profiles from the colorsync profiles folder, ICC tools still shows two
of each of these profiles to select from. Argh.
Anyway, how are others dealing with this? Are the v2 profiles so much
better I should just trash the old ones? Add the v2 to the external
names of the new ones so I know what I'm looking at? Fix them so the
internal name has no v2?
Seems to me Adobe of all people should be creating profiles without an
internal external name mismatch, particularly when one of them is
identical to a different profile also distributed by them.
But then I'm easily confused.
Then we get to the whole "which sRGB is it and which should I use?"
thing and I think I need to take a nap.
Thank you as usual,
Tyler
