Oops I was thinking of the 8200.
I guess the question comes down to whether the variations in behavior
are expected given the environment, or if there is actually something
wrong with the printer. What's probably necessary is to find someone
with the same model printer and print a control image on it once a day
for a couple of weeks and compare. If the variation on that printer is
about the same, then it's almost certainly expected variation,
otherwise the printer may need to be serviced.
Color laser and copier technology is one of those catch-22 things. They
do well on speed but consistent behavior is not their strong suit.
They're fussy with temperature and humidity in particular, and they can
be fussy with the paper as well that may also be something to check on.
