targets that Don Hutcheson is making out of Fujichrome Velvia?
I don't know if it's worth every penny - it's a pricey piece of film -
but, in combination with Profile City's scanner profiler, the HCT has
made the flat out best profile for my Imacon P3 that I've ever made. I
shoot Ektachrome, but after talking to Hutch, I bought the Fuji target on
his recommendation.
When scanning a TX, the initial preview is almost always dead on for
color. At the most I do a few minor changes - less than a minute's worth
of work. Not only is the color match amazing, but the increase in
productivity is a real boost. ...and as far as creating the profile, it
was a simple scan/measure/create process - no fiddling - although
Imacon's FlexColor software has some distinct advantages in this
department.
Hutch also has a procedure posted on his site for generating profiles
with extended shadow range - the profile I created with the standard
1-2-3 method is very good and has better shadow detail than an IT8
generated profile - and when I get the time, I'll try it out.
For me, at least, the HCT target has performed extremely well, although
it may be a combination of the whole - P'City, P3, FlexColor, and the HCT.
