was Spectro question - now profile building magic

Hi,
Recently I asked more about James Reswick Jr's original post regarding
profile behavior. Whether I understood the intent of his original question
or not - I wanted to know more about what happens during the profile
building process (not the same as profile use).

My "take away" is this: In the profile building process the software is
NOT literally comparing output values and measurement values (which would
require like values), but instead is correlating them (defining a
relationship - given this input value expect that output). And as Robin
Myers points out - this relationship works in the inverse direction as
well.

Of course once you HAVE profiles, then you can use them in various ways,
including to make comparisons.

Thanks to those who kindly responded to me directly and also to the list.
