At first, I apologize for all the newbie-level stuff in my mail,
color profiling and calibrating isn't my strongest field...
So the problem is Compaq's TFT7020 monitor with Mac OS X (10.2).
No matter how I try to calibrate the display's profile, all lighter
shades of gray look almost white. This means, that all the nice
graphics in OS X, anti-aliased fonts, those white/gray background lines
etc. look like (pardon my French) sh*t. This isn't such a big problem
with OS 9, only OS X.
The actual balance of colors seems to be ok (at least to meet my
not-so-professional requirements), but the lighter gray shades are
practically non-existent.
I've tried the calibrating tool in System Preferences/Displays,
SuperCal and WiziWYG. I've tried to find a cheap (or even free...)
tool or software that would allow me to actually edit the LUT curves
(I hope that's the correct term here) and see the results at once,
but with no luck. I do have Photoshop 7.0, but that doesn't help much
(or does it...?). SuperCal offers some level of curve editing, but
not enough.
What would you suggest, other than buying a megabuck calibrating
software with some sensor hardware etc. ? I have understood,
that TFT/LCD displays are somewhat trickier to calibrate than
old CRTs, because of the different technology. Is there some
easy way I can make this display usable with OS X?
TIA and regards,
Heikki
