using Quark's color management to print with. Not such a good idea.
I thought I had an answer to a similiar problem evolving in this thread. I too have a Xerox 7700 as well as Epson 9000
and 3000 printers. I've been using the 3000 with a rip to make pre press proofs. The results are good but the process
is painfully slow. Proofing a magazine takes the better part of a day.
I use my 9000 to make giclee prints and have profiled my papers and inks. The results are good. I'm hoping that the
9600 I have on order will produce even better results.
The problem is the Xerox. Using the export plug in in Photoshop produces accurate prints of tagged images when printing
RGB files straight from Photoshop but my Quark 5 files print too dark. Obviously these files are headed for an offset
press so I'm not wild about converting the TIFF files to a profile to make a proof and then reinserting standard CMYK
images for imagesetter output as that defeats the proofing purpose of the 7700 - speed.
I had hoped that there would be some insight into this problem but this morning's list offers the suggestion of turning
off Quark's color management. Well I already tried this as well as all of the possible combinations of settings in the
printer's color driver. Am I doing something wrong?
