Do Photoshop 7 Jpeg images cause problems?

I have read reports from people who have experienced problems browsing
web images created with Photoshop 7. This manifests in the slow down of
the system and increased memory use by the browser. It results in having
to quit the browser or even reboot the whole system. This seems to
affect PC users and ME but also Quark, more than Mac users. Here is an
explanation I have read:
With PS 7, Adobe decided by default to embed XML-encoded "preview"
data into JPEG files, using a feature of the JPEG format that permits
embedding of arbitrarily-named "profiles". In theory, these files are
valid according to the JPEG specifications. However they break many
applications, including Quark and, significantly, various versions of
Internet Explorer on various platforms.
They say also that there is a workaround by using the "save for the web"
JPEG command.
Would you recommend not to use PS7 for standard JPEGs with preview, or
will the concerned applications be updated to meet the new standard?
