The point is not the certification. What we need is a scheme for quality control in
inkjet-proofing.
In Germany, we have now an official standard for controlling inkjet proofs.
The FOGRA has releases a digital control strip called "mediawedge cmyk" and Lab-values
for every cmyk-patch from the control-strip.
All cmyk-patches to measuere are taken the ISO 12647 (IT8/7.3) Testchart. The Lab-values
are taken from official characterization-data. The printing-house can control the proof
by measuring the "mediawedge-cmyk" printed on the proof and compare it to Lab-values.
http://www.icctools.com has a tool to do such things with self defined control strips.
Best has a solution called remote-control which is also very smart.
Even with the free available measure tool from gretag macbeth, it is easy to compare
measurement values against a reference.
I made research for the USA and asked people from GRACoL about quality control of inkjet
proofs, based on characterization data. I got the answer, that it is not planned at the
moment.
The CGA/GATF Proof Comparator is made for density control and not for Lab-measurement.
On my experience, density control is not working well with most inkjet proofs I have
measured.
If anything is happen about quality-control for digital proofing with spectro-fotometers
in the USA, I4m highly interested to have an exchange about tolerances, problems with
optical brighteners, etc.
