Hi,
Here's a slightly different approach. I make fineart color prints from
scanned trannies on an Epson 10000 ARC and have to worry about metamerism.
So I have chosen to color correct so my prints look best under a Solux 3500K
bulb. I originally was using a halogen lamp because halogen is what art
galleries use to light my work. However, it's inevitable destination is
someone's home or office or public space where the lighting can vary from
incandescent to daylight or any mix thereof. By moving my most metameric
prints around from incandescent to halogen to 3500K (a bit cooler than
halogen) to fluorescent to daylight, I found that 3500K was close enought to
halogen and the slightly cooler temp made metamerism in daylight much less.
It all depends on what you want. I realize the industry standard is 5000K
and if that is what you need, you also might look into Ott Lights
(
http://www.ott-lite.com/), about which I have heard good things. I am
currently trying to make the same decisions for a studio I am about to have
built in my backyard. Solux track lighting is relatively expensive and I
don't need to light the whole studio with it, only my print viewing booth
and an area of wall for print display. Solux also makes tablelamp and
floorlamp fixtures for their bulbs. I haven't yet decided what lighting I
will use for the rest of the studio.
