Chris Murphy hit the nail on the head when he said something along the lines
of (either in this list or another) "an application that can send its own
CMYK to the printer driver is exempt from ColorSync management in 10.2." I
believe that he was relating specifically to printing, but I'm going to
hazard the guess that this also applies to screen redraw; basically: if the
application can do its own color management, then it can be the master of
its own screen display, or: managed vs. non-managed.
