Basic Question

Hello to all.

We recently had the privilege of having Andrew explain the difference between ICC_savy apps and the others. I helped me understand that I have some gaps in my understanding of ColorSync.

The way I have come to understand it, an ICC_savy app would read the embedded or the assumed file profile and send the adequate information and instructions to ColorSync, that is, to the OS so the image displayed would be massaged to compensate for the monitor characteristics (as in the monitor profile) for better results.

But it seems quite clear to me that once I tell the Monitor control panel to use a profile it will change the appearance of all images displayed, no matter if the app is ICC-savvy or not, no matter if the app reads the image source profile or not. The control panel simply changes the apparent brightness, gamma and color temperature and it is done at the OS level.

How are these I-believe-to-be facts related?

Many thanks in advance and regards.

Ing. Pablo Roufogalis L.
