The final color of an ink is greatly influenced by the paper it is
printed upon. There is a great example of this produced by Flint Ink.
They have a set of about a dozen papers with the same cyan ink applied
(they give this away at trade shows so watch out for it). The result is
a dozen different colors. No two patches are the same. For instance, the
cyan ink printed on uncoated brown shopping bag paper is almost black!
The major reason for this effect is that ink is partially transparent.
Therefore it must always be measured on the production paper stock.
