I've really sort of abandoned the whole notion of using density to
determine ink limits and have gone with evaluating Lab values along
with an eye of newt and a dash of salt (IOW, using a little magic)!
for the last several inkjet printers this has worked better,
especially for the "quality" of the yellow in the proof simulation.

The problem is which Lab value to match. Finding Lab values from
existing press profiles is relatively straightforward. But is there a
resource for or table of actual Lab values of CMYK inks before they
hit the press and then hit the paper and then are hit by the spectros?
For local presses here, is there a specific approach to measuring a
printer's press inks before it goes to stock? Or do I just ask him to
pour a little on the floor and wait for it to dry? (The floor is very
dirty...it could be carbon black.;0)
