normalizing Pantone colors problem (bug?)

  • Subject: normalizing Pantone colors problem (bug?)

I have found a peculiar problem with Illustrator 10 that I can't figure out. When creating objects in Illustrator and defining their color with Pantone colors (Solid Coated swatch), and then exporting an EPS file (AI 8 EPS), I've always gotten PostScript that contains both the Pantone reference as well as CMYK equivalent. I'm unable to get iQueue or ICC Autoflow to convert the colors unless I define a source CMYK profile. So both apps think these objects are CMYK only and aren't seeing the Pantone reference. Pantone Solid to process defined objects from Freehand and QuarkXPress are getting normalized as expected - so those apps are including their Pantone references.

Any suggestions as to what's going on?
