Don't confuse display gamma with Working Space gamma. They don't have to
sync up and the only thing they really share in common is the "term" gamma.
There is absolutely no reason you can't edit in a 2.2 gamma and have your
display in a 1.8 gamma. Photoshop handles all this for you behind the
scenes.
Now why didn't Apple kill that legacy 1.8 gamma when they moved into OSX???
Oh, I still do use a LaserWriter <g>
