Hi,
I'm looking for people's opinions on digital camera profiling. What
works, what doesn't. Is it worth it or are there just too many
variables to control? Any feedback would be appreciated.
As a working catalog and advertising photographer I can tell you
profiling a digital camera is money well spent. I use a LightPhase and
H20 by PhaseOne. I started out 3 1/2 years ago using Colorblind for my
camera profiles with ok success. When Coloreyes 20/20 came out I sprung
for the $800 which is probably my wisest digital purchase yet. If you
are doing photography where color matching is important than I would
look at Coloreyes 20/20. It has saved us numerous hours!
In my opinion all the talk about not being able to profile a digital
camera to be used in different lighting conditions is nonsense. Your
profile is describing how "your" camera reproduces color . If you shoot
your target with one even light and properly grey balance your light;
then the lighting is not a factor. Your lights need to be the same
color to each other and grey balancing must be done whenever lighting
changes. I shoot with straight heads, banks, Tungsten, etc. I have
never had a problem. Sure some edits are still needed but not many; 95%
look fine. Of course I'm talking about accurate color to my Adobe 98
working space. When I convert to CMYK the accuracy varies depending on
the profile chosen.
Regarding CR, I'm sure it makes sense for the prosumer, but I question
it in any production environment using professional equipment.
My opinion!
