I mostly just lurk on this list, and admittedly am technically far
inferior to many of the minds who are active here. I don't know very
much about the merits of xenon flash in the SpectroCam, but in this
case I think it is important to remember that manufacturer's and
userbase product support should be as much a huge consideration as
hardware.
For example, when I first got into color management a short while back,
I bought into Profile City (now merged with Integrated Color). Besides
the infuriating phrasematch nonsense, I found the dealer support,
updates, unfulfilled promises, and list support vastly inadequate.
While I was shopping for a replacement, I did check out (and seriously
consider) Monaco, but at that time it was still too much, and I was
already sitting on an expensive mistake. Now they've rearranged the
product, and price-wise it is much more competitive. If I remember,
there was an issue with licensing of profiles, though...
Then, upon reviewing the archives of this list I decided to download
the ProfileMaker Pro demo. After reading through the veritable
education that is their online support, I have since switched to
ProfilerPro and have been getting much better color "right out of the
box".
Just my 2 pesos,
Dave Gaudet
What are the pros and cons of Gretag Profile Maker vs. Monaco
Profiler? Is one better than the other? I understand that only Monaco
supports the SpectroCam which we think is excellent (due to the Xenon
flash?). Any thoughts?
TIA, Stefan
