I agree with Roger that multi-spectral images provide a lot more
information about a scene but in most cases there is no need for this
information.
It would be easier if the sensor manufacturers would improve the
spectral sensitivities of their sensors to match the Luther condition. A
soon as a camera achieves the spectral sensitivity of the human eye the
color reproduction problems in digital photography for fine art imaging
would be solved.
We started testing digital cameras in 1997 and found that the
sensitivity of the actual sensors is a hell of a lot better than it was
a couple of years ago.
