Building a Scanner Profile

I was wondering if there are many differences between the software
packages that build scanner profiles? I am currently using an Epson
2400 flatbed scanner without a profile. I would like to create a
profile to get more accurate results. I have been considering
MonacoEZcolor. Will this give me an accurate profile using an IT8
target? On the other end of the price range is the Gretag Macbeth
ProfileMaker. How much of an accuracy difference is there for just
building a scanner profile?
