From the recent postings on the list, I gather that
the Frontier paper
gamut
is pretty small. About the size of sRGB everyone says.
But, what about
the
gamut of a LightJet or a Lambda? For those who've had
the chance to
profile
these babies hands on, would you agree that these
devices are best
characterized as having color gamuts that are *larger*
than a Frontier?
<<<<<<
Comparing a Chromira to a Frontier, the Chromira is
slightly larger (mainly in yellow) than the Frontier.
Both are smaller than sRGB. The Frontier
non-professional software is not ICC-aware, and simply
assumes it is receiving sRGB. It then applies it's own
secret sauce.

>>>And
if so, it must be a function of the photographic paper
they use. Are
any of
the paper used in these two machines different than
the regular Crystal
Archive Digital (Fuji) or Pro Photo Paper (Kodak)?<<<<
They all can use any of the same papers, and the
papers are what impose most of the gamut limits. sRGB
is adequate for the vast majority of images. If you
need to find out if it is adequate for your work, you
can use Colorthink to map a representative sample of
the pixels from an image into whatever colorspace you
would like. It is very interesting to see how
frequently only a small portion of the available
colors are actually used.
