I have never seen a 50% dot go to 70% on gloss on my presses.

But everyone says I HAVE to have at least 20% gain.
Dear MSD,
I once measured dot gain on a narrow web flexo press, on paper. C+M+Y were
on 600 Aniloxes and yield typical gains of 20% more or less. But, the K was
on a 700 Anilox and only yielded a gain of 6%!! Imagine, 6%. That's very low
dot gain in my book. So, if you're only getting 60% on your 50%, that could
suggest that your black printer has very low dot gain. Why is that? Are you
analog or digital, on the plate side? What LPI? Check to make sure your
densitometer meets Status T by measuring a T-Ref. Then you can trace your
dot gain to your film or plate. Or it could be the blanket on the black is
different, transfers less ink, than the other blankets. Maybe your ink
itself is formulated differently. All kinds of variables, as you can see. I
was'nt trying to generalize dot gain figures.

Is that I get 20% (of the actual dot) gain - across the board.

I usually send a reply to the post and wait around.

I noticed you folks tend to send to the post and the writer.

Do you take the discussion off the post then ( as I have done - for
