Hello -
I'm new to the list and a rooky to color management/profiling. I have
a G4 with 1G RAM, 3 hard drives totaling 200MB and a 17" Studio
Display. I run both OSX 10.1.5 and MAC OS 9.2. My workspace is real
simple - Studio Display, PS, OS 9 and the printer which is an EPSON
2200 that was just acquired (We had an EPSON 1280 for the last year
and a half that worked great color-wise).
Here's my basic problem - I'm trying to setup color profiles for the
2200 and so far haven't been able to get this done successfully. I
have MonacoEZcolor 2.1 which I used for building the profiles for the
1280 by simply following the MonacoEZcolor manual and instructions.
By doing this we got good color results with the 1280. I have done
the same process for the 2200 using MonacoEZcolor but the colors are
substantially off. As a result I am rereading everything on color
management that I can find but I have become more confused than
ever! This includes the bible - "Real World Color Management" So I
need some help.
First problem is this - I can't find a printer space profile named
"Same as Source" anywhere on my system. Is there a substitute profile
that can be used or, where can I find this profile? (I've looked and
can't find it anywhere on the Internet).
I have downloaded the GretagMacBeth ColorChecker chart and have
printed it with color management off in PS, Plain paper media type,
No Color Management and Apple RGB as the print space profile. The
MacBeth target is printed of course but is off - the grays have a
distinctive greenish ting and the black square is the same color as
the border around all of the squares. I have tried some different
settings and found the MacBeth target prints pretty good by selecting
ColorSync for color management except the colors seem faded and kind
of washed out.
Where should I go from here? I can provide more details about my
workspace and our ultimate goals but I thought I would try to get
some basic stuff working correctly first like getting a common color
target printing acceptably on plain paper before moving on.
BTW: I saw that EPSON had published a new driver for the 2200 on
7/31. I downloaded this software but StuffIt could not UnStuffIt on
my system. I tried several times with no luck. I even downloaded it a
few different times - still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
