The differences may just be too subtle to see on the monitor. What kinds of
changes are you seeing in the Lab values?
I open the file in Photoshop and assign the scanner profile, with Color
Settings first in absolute and then in relative mode. For example, the
second neutral field of the gray step GS1 (below L1) changes from LAB abs
(81,2 -1,0 -0,2) to LAB rel (88,3 -0,4 -2,2). Reference value is LAB
(82,0 -0,6 0,7). In Photoshop only the LAB values seem to change and the
scanned target looks in both cases like the one in ColorLab converted with
relative colorimetric intent. In ColorLab I can easily see the differences
between both conversion modes. If I apply the scanner profile and convert
the document to Adobe RGB (1998) in absolute mode then the colors of the
scanned target get a yellow touch. This one does not compare to any of the
ColorLab conversions.
I do not understand the algorithms behind the rendering intent
transformation and the working space in Photoshop. Why does the monitor
clearly shows the differences in LAB values when I use ColorLab in both
conversion modes ? What is different in Photoshop ?
Thanks,
Peter
