Like 12 sheets? Printed right into the 'center' of SWOP aim densities. As
detailed in ANSI CGATS TR 001-1995.

The profile is only as good as the process, averaging or no averaging.
So the question becomes: is a 'good' Heidelberg or Komori or Mitsubishi
press not 'repeatable' enough to deserve profiling? Or is this basically a
whole waste of time, no matter what level of attention to details goes in
getting all the proper process controls right? I mean, if I manage to get
within +- 0.02d of my original target densities, +- 1% of my original dot
gain targets, same wet ink trapping and same paper shade as gotten
originally at the time of printing the CMYK characterization target, am I
wasting my time or what?
I think from a quality point of view, that there is a tight range of press
conditions that, if arrived at, will yield more than acceptable matches from
a color reproduction point of view that should in principle beat separating
for 'generic' Matchprint or other kind of analog proofs printing conditions.
Unfortunately, I don't have any data to back this hypothesis nor do I know
any study that deals with this problem. But that's my view.
Should one close the book on press profiling alltogether and simply use
'stable' analog/chemical proofing systems forever? When all those analog
proofing systems are in effect disappearing one after the other? And leave
all the presses of the world deal with matching Matchprints, ColorArts and
Waterproofs like good soldiers?
