I would try restoring the monitor to factory settings and then try again.
Which monitor are you trying to calibrate? I had this red fringing problem
with an early incarnation of a DDC enabled application but have found the
BlueEye X (with both the old Chroma IV and the newer "squid" instrument) to
be pretty solid.
