I hope my english is good enough to understand what you meant, but a
correction done in the hardware (monitor's whitepoint tool via the OSD)
won't affect the levels which are available, while when you're changing
the whitepoint via the LUT you'll loose some levels of the possible 256
levels in a channel, where some levels will fall on the same new level
which could be differentiated before. So that's not a minor, but an
important difference. It's always best to calibrate in the hardware. When
the OS and programs would use 16 Bit/channel that might not be a real
issue, but... :-)
