Hello, I have followed post on this list before about which white
value to use and there has always seemed to be no consensus but with
a majority opinion leaning toward D65.
I am an artist producing limited edition fine art prints. All of my
images are created in the computer. I am using an Epson 7000 with the
Indelible ink set and my monitor is a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2040u. I
do all of my profiling with an Eye-One Pro which has recently been
upgraded to the Publisher edition. The papers I tend to use the most
are the Epson Smooth Fine Art and Roland's Sienna Rag Soft.
Previously, I have used ColorVision's ProfilerPRO for making my
printer profiles. Since I can now use the Eye-One Match, I began to
make profiles with it to make quality comparisons. They are very
close to hue and value but with a significant difference in gamut
width. The Eye-One Match profile shows more color capability. Whether
that is true or not remains to be seen.
What struck me the most was the same slight hue shift from a yellow
to a yellow with a slight green cast. Neither of the soft proofs
using both profiles predicted this. Then today, just on a whim, I
changed my monitor's white point from D65 to D50 and I got a match
with soft proofing in Photoshop. Since then, I have created new
monitor profiles specifying the white point as D50 and the soft
proofing is now closer to my final output.
Is there any reason why I should consider going back to D65? Does
anyone have any comments about this process?
I would appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you,
Gabriel
