I am mostly a Windows user, therefore I'm most familiar with using them
in the PC environment. I wasn't crazy about my RefCal at D50, but at D65
I really like it and at least to me is much preferable. It may very well
be that that Calibrator Talk does create a profile, however I use it for
calibration purposes only. As far as I can tell, unless you specifically
and manually export the monitor profile from Calibrator Talk and
manually place it in the correct folder, Windows will not use this
profile at all. If you don't know how to do this you are finished. Its
not like Optical, which knows to place the profile in the
spool/drivers/color folder on Windows 2000/XP and associate the display
profile with the correct monitor.
I feel like there is a better screen to print match now with Optical
profiling than just exporting the Barco profile. I don't use the Barco
profile at all, but I like the Barco calibration for obvious reasons. I
use Optical ONLY for profiling. If people prefer the Barco profile, so
be it, to me the difference was clear and it looks like the Barco
profile isn't what I'm looking for. I tried the Eye One Photo suite
recently but I seem to remember that it didn't support leaving the white
point at its native setting ( at least in the version I had) and that
is a problem for me in this case. I don't have geometry problems, I'm
not sure how to comment on that because I can't replicate the situation.
When I bought a Quicksilver dually I hooked up the Barco and the machine
wouldn't even boot into OSX properly, this is how far I took it with
OSX.
I won't argue that you may be better off with a Sony, but I would like
to know about their warranty. I have 2 slightly older Sony displays and
one started looking really crappy in the warranty period. Sony wanted me
to pay to send it to a warranty facility (I think it was in Texas) and
the turn around was like 3-4 weeks. This stinks. Mitsubishi has a
replacement on your door the next morning where Sony left you with
nothing. I would like to know how the Artisan is handled when it craps
out.
