I can only talk about the 100xy as I have done several tests with it.
I have done tests with both reflective and transmissive traceable
reference materials. The accuracy was always superior to the X-Rite
and Gretag devices I have tested, but I wouldn't consider the
differences important for most production tasks. The reproduction
fault of the 100xy is very impressive wich does qualify the device
for certain quality assurance tasks. Handling of optical whiteners is
good.
But there are a number of problems.
- First the device is not build for rough conditions. The case is not
similar to the perfect mass produced devices like those from X-
Rite/Gretag. So I wouldn't place the 100xy in typical production
rooms or move the device often.
- There are a number of accuracy problems with certain measurement
modes that can mostly be fixed by software. Validate before
measurement!
- The software shipped with the device is one of the worst things I
have seen in a long time. So, I would recommend you do check that
your profiling software does directly support it.
Total: If you just intend to profile a printer, I would consider
buying a cheaper Gretag or X-Rite device as they are easier to use,
do have better software suport and thus wider use and are more
reliable. The accuracy is usualy good enough. But for quality
assurancy, development and such, the 100xy is a great device. For
(automatic) measurement of film the 100xy is definitly a great device
and there is hardly any competation.
