By the way I agree with Neil Snape that the Adobe Pressready rip was a
little beauty among the slim pickings available for desktop printers
such as the 1270 at the time it was produced.

Interestingly I was most pleased with profiles for
this rip created with ColorVision's Profiler Pro. While some on this
list have criticised that package for its CMYK capabilities, I found
that used with its linearisation stage, that allowed adjustment of
PhotoShop's dot gain curves prior to profile creation, produced a great
result.

Precisely my experience. As a matter of fact I don't believe I've been able to better those results with any driver I can afford, or even profiling software I can't afford.
