Link/abstract profiles in Photoshop

  • Subject: Link/abstract profiles in Photoshop

I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but is an 'abstract' profile the
same as a link profile, just that the space is a PCS? In other words, a link
profile could be for example rgb->rgb, while an 'abstract' profile is always
lab->lab or xyz->xyz??

Anyway, is there a way to apply those (link and/or abstract) in Photoshop?
Or a free plugin that can do so? (I believe there was one long ago?)

I am thinking of 'rescueing' some very old color transform plugins by
recording their effects in an it8 (or other) target file and turning that
into a link or abstract profile... Sounds reasonable? Is there any product
that can do that? Maybe one of ColorVision or Kodak profile editors?

Best regards,
