Can you guarantee that all subjects wp and bp will have the same optical
densities on your transparencies? If they do and they are not too far of the
IT8 dmin and dmax then you'd completely in sync IMO and the profile should
model well your scanning conditions.

Yes, that is my understanding too.

Maybe because there are different batches of emulsion that have different
dmin and dmax? Maybe because all the subjects you scan were not shot in the
same exact lighting conditions and hence don't have all the same wp and bp?
