Right! When the monitor was first connected to the machine (I'm
assuming Mac here) the system will end up with a profile named after
the monitor, based on the information provided by the monitor itself.
But it won't be an accurate one. At best it will be an approximation
created by the software Calibrate Display function.

Based on the sometimes dramatic differences I've seen between such
profiles and the setup created by basICColor Display, I would
*strongly* recommend getting at least a colorimeter and calibrating
and profiling the display. Your monitor supports DDC, which with
the right cable is supported by some profiling software (inc.
basICColor) to accurately calibrate the monitor.

I wouldn't even begin to question the printer profile before I could
trust the monitor profile.

Cheers!
