Been very busy last month and in the past 24 hours went through about
600 posts on this list collected over the past 30 days.
A couple of issues popped up that concern me. I have been frustrated
with the fact that inkjet printing in OSX is more difficult than in
OS9. I used to easily make a profiles for paper and ink combinations
for my 1270 or 1280 printer in OS9. I used the i1 and colorvision to
make the profiles. I used the Gretagmacbeth tech tool to generate lab
numbers from the outputs I read with the i1. Great profiles and very
easy to do.
Then I switched to OSX....about 5 months ago. Now also using Photoshop
CS....great program. However, I have been struggling recently in
trying to use the 1280 and the standard Epson inkset for some in-house
proofing. For the past 6 months I have been doing most of my serious
photo printing on Lightjet and have good profiles from the lab for
that. I have a Nikon D1X and shoot raw files in Adobe RGB.
The only way I have been able to get a decent print is to open
Photoshop CS and use Print with Preview. I use Color Management with
the source space as Adobe RGP and the print space is printer color
management and relative colorimetric. When I try to use any of the
new profiles I just recently made in OSX with the latest GTM Tech Tool
and Colorvision, I get these wild almost solarized looking prints that
are so far off that I wonder why I bought all this expensive
calibration hardware and software.
Question: How can I get back to making excellent profiles in OSX like
I used to make in OS9? I would like to purchase an Epson 2200 or
possibly an Epson 4000 and start printing some high quality inkjet
again. I hesitate only because of the Epson driver issues...or is it
Apple issues....under OSX. After reading all the posts...I don't
remember seeing a definitive answer short of someone saying that I
should uninstall all old printer drivers and that should make the new
OSX ones well... I am not a color tech person, just a particular
professional photographer. Can someone suggest an easy answer?
thanks
