The Artisan (Sony GDM-C520K) is based on the Sony GDM-F520 which is
actually only $100 less expensive. For the money I'd be inclined to go
with the integrated solution.
Incidentally, I've had great results from LaCie monitors with the DDC
cable and the LaCie BlueEye Hardware/Software. At a site in the UK
where I set up a color managed workflow we were able to get around 15
monitors on 3 sites to match (within tolerances of course!) I'd try
talking to LaCie and see if you can borrow the HW to make an assessment
before purchasing.
